Our Pupils
We have approximately 480 pupils in our school, ranging in age between 11 and 16. In school years this translates to Years 7 to 11 which takes them to the end of their GCSEs.
Our latest Ofsted report was full of praise for our pupils, writing that ‘The school not only does well academically; it also offers its students many effective opportunities to enhance their personal development. The result is that students take part in a huge number of activities, work well together, and behave towards each other and towards adults with great courtesy. Ofsted described students’ behaviour as ‘excellent’ and commented on the very positive attitudes shown by students towards school and their teachers - ‘they genuinely enjoy being at school’ .
School Parliament
Pupils in all year groups have representatives on the School Parliament and the views and requests expressed by School MPs are taken seriously by the school. Changes do occur as a direct result of items being raised at parliamentary meetings.
The election of SMPs is democratic: every pupil writes a manifesto, setting out what they would do if they were School Member of Parliament. These manifestos are displayed in classrooms for a few days, then those pupils who don’t wish to 'stand' for election to the parliament remove their manifesto and the voting begins!
Extra-curricular Activities
There is an extensive range of clubs and activities available to all students - please see Ofsted comment, above. An example of the sort of extra-curricular activities is as follows:
Sport: football, rugby, hockey, netball, martial arts, extreme golf
Music: school band, choir and use of practice rooms
Other: creative writing, handicrafts
